⚙ General
Q: What is a "tick"?
A tick is the automated game system that applies training and health updates to your animals, disperses rewards, and processes Tier promotions. It runs daily at around 3:00am CT.
Q: What is Premium membership and how do I get it??
Premium is our paid membership subscription that gives you a higher animal cap, a monthly Laurels stipend, more monthly breedings, the ability to use custom CSS for stables, profiles, and establishments. You can subscribe by going to: https://toplinesim.com/premium.php
Q: What is a Voucher and what is it used for?
A Voucher is our version of the creation credit, is used to create a foundation animal. 1 Voucher = 1 Animal.
Q: What does "BSC" stand for?
BSC stands for the Belverra Sports Council — how all official events are designated within the game. It is our equivalent of an equestrian federation and kennel club combined.
Q: Why are there caps?
Caps exist to prevent exploitation and monopolies. Topline is a game built around lore, worldbuilding, and interconnected mechanics — we value quality over quantity.
Q: How do I get more Vouchers?
Vouchers are awarded when you reach Tier 2 and above, and can be purchased with Laurels from the Exchange in your Wallet. You may purchase a maximum of four (4) Vouchers per month.
Q: What happens to late shows?
Once a show is considered late (more than 7 days past the show date), any member may run it and receive the Laurels for doing so. Entry fees are still paid out to the original host, and payouts are deducted from their account accordingly.
🐾 General Animal Questions
Q: What is the difference between a foundation animal and a bred animal?
Foundation animals are created by the player using a Voucher. Their genetics are generated randomly based on their breed, and you choose their discipline and training background. They are equal to any other animal at the point of creation.

Bred animals inherit their genetics from both parents. While there is no difference at the start, selective breeding over multiple generations can stack favorable genes and produce animals with higher long-term potential than a foundation animal. The longer and more carefully you breed, the greater the advantage.
Q: Can I transfer or sell animals to other players?
Yes, you can. Ownership transfers are done via the "Manage" menu on an animals page.
Q: What happens when an animal ages out / retires?
Horses are auto-retired from competition at 20. Stallions are auto-retired from breeding at 25, mares at 20. Dogs are auto-retired from breeding and competition at 10.
Q: Can I change my animal's name?
A newly born foal or pup's name can be updated directly from their profile page at no cost. All other name changes may be requested once via The Ledger in the appropriate format and cost 1,000 Laurels.
Q: How many animals can I own?
Free members may own up to 250 animals; Premium members up to 500. Each horse also requires a purchased stall.
Q: How do I get more horses or dogs?
There are several ways: use a Voucher to create a foundation animal, breed one, purchase from another player, or adopt from The Haven.
Q: Can you add a new discipline?
All main disciplines are set. Specialisations under existing disciplines may be considered with sufficient community support, but new top-level disciplines will not be added.
Q: Can you add a new breed?
Breeds are coded into the system and require significant community backing — multiple owners — to be considered for addition.
Q: What is "Send to Pasture" / "Rehome"?
Sending a horse to pasture or rehoming a dog effectively removes them from active play. They cannot be bred, shown, or trained, and do not count toward your animal cap or require routine care. Please do not abuse this.
🐴 Horses
Q: When can horses start breeding?
Horses may be bred from the age of three (3) and must have at least 60 health. Mares can produce one foal per year.
Q: When do horses pass away?
Horses have the chance of passing away anytime after the age of twenty-five (25) and all horses pass away at the age thirty-five (35).
🐕 Dogs
Q: When can dogs be bred?
Dogs may begin breeding at the age of two (2) and must have at least 60 health. Bitches can have one litter per year.
Q: When do dogs pass away?
Dogs have the chance of passing away anytime after the age of twelve (12) and all dogs pass away at the age of sixteen (16).
🏆 Showing & Training
Q: When do show entries close?
Entries close at midnight UTC on the date shown under "Entries Close" on the show's page. When hosting a show this defaults to the day before the show date.
Q: What are BSC events vs member-hosted shows?
BSC events are official game hosted shows. Placings in BSC events are worth double points! Member-hosted events make up a majority of shows and are exactly as they sound they are held by members and associations. They are worth the standard amount of points.
🌿 Rewards & Laurels
Q: I haven't received my Laurels or Rosettes yet?
Automated rewards are processed daily during the tick. If you are missing something give it until the next tick to arrive before posting in The Query Board.
